Sleep
Sleep is one of the most frustrating and common issues that seniors deal with. As humans age they get less sleep, especially deep restorative sleep. Lack of quality sleep can cause attention and memory problems, excessive daytime sleeping and/or depression for seniors. Too often sleep issues and the its behaviors is mistaken as loss of cognitive skills. Experts feel healthy seniors should get 6-9 hours each night. The most common causes of sleep problems for seniors are; STRESS – LACK OF EXERCISE – POOR SLEEP HABITS – and MEDICATIONS. In the next weeks will discuss these causes and some suggested cures. Better quality and quantity of sleep aides the elderly to maintain physical, mental and emotional health leading to a much higher quality of life.
