Meditation
As Total Meditation states, studies show anxiety among seniors is quite common. Around 10% of adults 65 and over are diagnosed with anxiety in any given year. Anxiety can be a heavy burden on everyday life for seniors, and it can be caused by many factors such as:
- Alzheimer’s or dementia
- Needing physical assistance (walker, cane, bathtub bars, etc.)
- Living in a care home
Anxiety makes clear thinking difficult because brain pathways become tightened up making signals to brain slowed. Meditation helps seniors relax and opens up the pathways for more logical thoughts about the situation they are dealing with at the time. Meditation creates relaxation and slowed breathing, both allowing the release of tension and anxiety.
