Meditation and Depression
Feeling sad or blue occasionally is normal for seniors, but a lasting feeling of depression should be treated. There are many factors that can lead to depression as we age. Traumatic events such as losing a loved one, loss of mobility, transition into retirement, or changing finances are just a few.
There is no one treatment that works for everyone, but there are many benefits that meditation has for seniors suffering from depression. Believe it or not, meditation can be as effective as medications for managing depression’s symptoms. Mindfulness meditation can help to decrease worrisome thoughts. By focusing on your breathing and focusing of the present moment, you can manage your symptoms, become more compassionate to others and yourself, and replace negative thoughts with more positive emotions.
With the regular practice of meditation, over time, there will come a very powerful and positive effect on your physical and mental health and wellbeing.
