If you did not get the COVID shot this fall, you need to hustle and catch up!
The most recent shot (released in Sept. 2023), it is not an actual booster. It is in fact, a new vaccine for the latest COVID variant. So, even if you have gotten the vaccine and all the boosters, you are not fully covered against this version of the virus.
Researchers who study the COVID virus are predicting that the virus will go on through the winter along with the flu, RSV and other viruses that hospitalize hundreds of thousands of older American adults, as it has done each year.
David Montefiori, director of the Laboratory for AIDS Vaccine Research and Development at Duke University Medical Center, says “one thing we have learned over past 3-1/2 years is that (the coronavirus) isn’t a seasonal virus like the flu is, it’s with us constantly. He goes to say “ as immunity wanes in the population, we’re going to continue see increased numbers of infections and associated increases in hospitalizations and deaths.”
The coronavirus could become an annual shot like the flu. Researchers are working on a combined COVID – flu vaccine, in a few years from now we will get one single shot and it will be all we need to protect ourselves.
