Daytime Sleep
According to a study published in the journal ‘Sleep’, if you are a healthy adult between ages 66 and 83, you can expect to be less sleepy during the day. A group of British researchers studied young, healthy adults (ages 20-30) middle-aged adults (ages 40-50) and older adults, during 2 nights as they slept in a sleep lab.
The results of their study revealed that healthy older adults, without sleep disorders, (i.e., apnea) can experience less sleepiness during the day.
How does one acquire and maintain such good “sleep hygiene”? Doctors recommend the following three disciplines: go to bed and get up at the same time all 7 days of the week, ingest no caffeine 8-hours before bed, and get regular exercise.
