Caring for an Aging Parent – Part III
How Can I Help ?
Once it is determined and agreed on by family that the parent needs assistance, it’s time to start looking for information and services that are available in your area. The level and type of care will be determined by a professional assessment of the current condition and needs of the senior.
If the idea of becoming the caregiver is overwhelming, there is good news. There are area services available for both low-income seniors and those with disabilities.
The agencies and services for the aging will very from state-to-state, county-to-county, and city-to-city. The best way to start is to contact your local Area Agency on Aging. This agency offers great information on services that are available and the program(s) that the loved-one qualifies for. Some Area Agencies on Aging even offer care coordination.
In most areas, these are both the services and information available locally
