IN-HOME RESPITE CARE
A family caregiver often finds that care can change very quickly, from a few hours a week to around-the-clock care. It is not humanly possible to provide 24-hour care with out some help. That is why most in-home, non-medical personal care companies offer respite care services. Whether it be for an afternoon of personal time, a weekend off, or a week-long family vacation, the time needed can be met. Respite care provides the caregiver with time to recharge, have a more balanced life, and stay physically a mentally healthy while keeping the loved one safe and happy
Medicare will pay for some qualifying respite care in-home visits. Check with your local Area Agency on Aging to see if your situation qualifies for Medicare assistance or if you need help filling out the application. If your situation does not qualify for Medicare, the agency may be able to help with area grants. These respite care grants often qualify for assisted living or nursing home facilities as well as in-home care.
